Pump It Up Fundraiser Recap

We had a ton of fun with everyone that joined us at Pump It Up on Thursday.  Thank you for your support and enthusiasm!  The kids bounced around, played Tug-o'-War, cooled off in the Cyclone Blast, and even had a snowball fight!

Your Drew PTSA hosts spirit nights and restaurant fundraisers approximately once a month.  Keep an eye out for flyers in your child(ren)'s Thursday folder(s) for upcoming events!

DTYCTS Day Recap

Drew dads rock! We had 125 father figures and their children registered for Drew's Dad Take Your Child to School Day! Your Drew PTSA provided the breakfast goodies and pitched in with the setup.

It was a heartwarming hour of bonding over breakfast and activities. Through our counselor's, Mrs. Allen's, activity sheets, kids had the opportunity to learn more about the male role models in their lives. One activity had both students and their role models tracing each other's hands and attempting to write messages while blindfolded! There was also a questionnaire to quiz students and their loved ones on facts about Drew and its staff.

We sincerely thank our male role models for showing their school spirit and commitment to Drew.  So many kids were also thrilled to be escorted by their dads to their classrooms.  Our students love when family members visit them in their classrooms, and dads make a special impression.

So, we know you're out there, dads!  If you find yourself struggling to volunteer or contribute to our school as much as you'd like, please reach out to us anyway and we'll do our best to find somehow for you to do it in a way that fits your schedule.

Back-to-School Night Recap

With our Open House/Picnic and Back-to-School Night now past, we're officially settled into the new academic year. It was great greeting returning and new members! We look forward to a productive year with your support. If you haven't signed up for the PTSA, please download the membership application found in "Media" on the menu bar above. You may also contact our Membership Co-Directors, Florence Chery and Vicky Christos, via our Contact page. You can return your form with your payment in an envelope labeled "Drew PTSA" to the main office or to your child(ren)'s teacher.

Back-to-School Open House/Picnic Recap – Thursday, August 31, 2017

Drew opened its doors to students and families on August 31 in anticipation of the new school year.  Your Drew PTSA was on hand to welcome returning members, sign up new ones, and greet fresh faces.  In addition to the administration's planned classroom visits and backpacks/supplies distribution, your PTSA sold pizza and refreshments and provided a bounce house.  Thank you to all that attended the Open House and stopped by to say hello!

We are thrilled to start the new year and hope you'll join us as we make Drew a phenomenal place to learn!  Don't hesitate to reach out to us if you'd like to volunteer, need help navigating our school, or need a friend!

Technology Upgrades

Your Drew PTSA partnered with the school administration to identify areas of need for technology resources. After Mrs. Means-Harris informed us that the School-Community Based (SCB), speech pathology, and media center staff could benefit from upgrades to their communications technology, we immediately decided on iPads. We hand delivered 6 iPads and protective cases to a very ecstatic bunch of educators. We sincerely hope that these tools will help to improve communications and enhance instruction for our children with special needs.

Classroom Resources

The PTSA elf has struck again!  Eighteen staff members were greeted by gift cards, supplies, teaching manipulatives, and even furniture on Thursday morning, August 24, along with a personalized card.  We had many more requests this year than last year, but we were still able to procure substantial resources for all recipients.  We are helping to offset out-of-pocket costs that many staff members include in their annual budgets to make their classrooms educational and fun for our children.

We also managed to stay just under budget by spending $1,497.48 of our allocated $1,500.  While it may be simple to donate money or in kind on your own, your Drew PTSA coordinates the effort to ensure that staff members' needs are addressed, funds are allocated appropriately without sacrificing other budget requests, and gifts are delivered on behalf of our entire PTSA community.

Check out the pictures of all the resources courtesy of the 2016-2017 PTSA administration.  The Dewalt power drill kit for Mr. Macías and his building services staff is not pictured.

NEC-S Area Planning Meeting – June 26, 2017

The Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA) hosts a series of summer meetings for all county clusters. Our cluster, the Northeast Consortium-Sherwood (NEC-S), rallied together on Monday, June 26, at The Greene Turtle in Burtonsville. Our PTSA President-Elect, Neal Hawkins (front left), and Secretary-Elect, Condon Daniel (right, in white), were eager to hit the ground running as 2 of our newest officers. They participated in discussions about the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) that determines how our schools are assessed for renovations and expansions. Your Drew PTSA has been advocating for HVAC repairs/updates, an electric wiring modernization to support modern technology, and a security monitoring system.
