DTYCTS Day Recap

Drew dads rock! We had 125 father figures and their children registered for Drew's Dad Take Your Child to School Day! Your Drew PTSA provided the breakfast goodies and pitched in with the setup.

It was a heartwarming hour of bonding over breakfast and activities. Through our counselor's, Mrs. Allen's, activity sheets, kids had the opportunity to learn more about the male role models in their lives. One activity had both students and their role models tracing each other's hands and attempting to write messages while blindfolded! There was also a questionnaire to quiz students and their loved ones on facts about Drew and its staff.

We sincerely thank our male role models for showing their school spirit and commitment to Drew.  So many kids were also thrilled to be escorted by their dads to their classrooms.  Our students love when family members visit them in their classrooms, and dads make a special impression.

So, we know you're out there, dads!  If you find yourself struggling to volunteer or contribute to our school as much as you'd like, please reach out to us anyway and we'll do our best to find somehow for you to do it in a way that fits your schedule.

DTYCTS Day! – Tuesday, September 19, 2017

DTYCTS (aka Dads Take Your Child to School) Day is upon us! Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 19, is the official day. Your Drew PTSA is proud to partner with our new school counselor, Mrs. Nadine Allen, to organize and sponsor the event. Please join us for doughnuts, coffee, and activities with your children in the All-Purpose Room at 8:25 AM before school starts. Last year's celebration witnessed more than 100 father figures, and we expect this year to top that.  Fathers and other male role models/guardians (e.g. grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, big brothers, etc.) are invited to attend.  See you first thing in the morning!

Farewell, 5th Graders!

Drew was so lucky to have our 5th graders leading the school this year.  We will certainly miss them and wish them the best.

In recognition of their success and contributions, your Drew PTA and a committee of 5th grade teachers and parents teamed up to continue the exciting 5th grade end-of-year party tradition.  Together with a substantial fundraising effort by teachers and parents and a PTA sponsorship, the kids were treated to an exciting 3-hour fun fest featuring music, pizza, snacks, refreshments, Kona Ice, a photo booth, and an inflatable obstacle course.

We bid our graduating 5th graders a bittersweet farewell! You were amazing students and even better kids! Thank you for helping to make Drew a fantastic school. We hope your journey into middle school and beyond is as successful as the one you've experienced here with us! And remember: once a Dolphin, always a Dolphin! Visit often!

5th Grade Legacy Yearbook is Here!

After a solid 3 months of extremely hard work and attention to detail, our 5th Grade Legacy Yearbook is complete! Your Drew PTSA subsidizes the yearbook each year to guarantee that each graduating 5th grader receives a parting gift from our beloved school. In order to keep costs low, parents and students form a committee and a club to work on the yearbook's content. The club is entirely self-run and managed by the committee.

2015-2016 was the legacy yearbook's debut, and that volume featured 28 full-color pages of wonderful memories. This year's committee knocked it out of the park with 70 pages and tons of content! The annual was presented to the 5th graders at the 5th Grade Graduation Party on June 15.

We'd like to thank the committee for its incredible work ethic and dedication to creating a wonderful memento for the class of 2017:

FLES Wraps Up

The Foreign Language in Elementary School (FLES) program classes in French and Spanish hosted their final sessions and held an open house for parents on May 15. The classes were offered by Big Learning, a non-profit enrichment before- and after-school program organization founded by the Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA) in 1975. We've been delighted to coordinate its return after a few-year hiatus and look forward to teaming up again to offer foreign language opportunities in the future.

Spanish Beginners instructor, Mirdahlia Claros, reviews the year's lessons and quizzes the kids' skills
